Perinatal Mental Health Videos
Forging Families has worked with families in Sheffield and further afield to put together this collection of videos about perinatal mental health – from parents to parents.
In this first video we asked parents what support or advice they wanted to share with other parents struggling with perinatal mental health (from low mood to severe PND) and this is what they said.
A brave Mother’s story through postpartum psychosis. A long watch (11 minutes) but an essential one.
“It started slowly at first. Catching glimpses, hearing bangs, seeing a flash as if someone had just raced past very quickly. I assumed it was from being tired. I cried so much, usually in bed.”
If you are worried about postpartum psychosis watch this video, know that you are not alone and there is a way out. Every midwife, health visitor, doctor, social worker – any professional who works with new families should watch this.
This video of Elaine’s story through her perinatal mental health journey is deeply moving and we hope gives mums great hope. Thank you Elaine for sharing your wonderful words. Elaine has written two books which can be bought on Amazon – they are mentioned in this video.
Sheffield Dad, Paul Webster, has reached out and spoken of his own experiences to help other Dads, to raise awareness and to offer insight to our Perinatal NHS and Public Health services.
Mark Williams talks about how becoming a dad affected him and the need for a more family-centred approach
